The Portland Model
Leading on Ending Homelessness, A Podcast
Portland has a national reputation for providing leadership on effective solutions to ending people's homelessness. The story begins with Mayor Bud Clark who offered unprecedented mayorial leadership on solving homelessness. In a series of short interviews, Stacy Holtmann and Marc Hillman uncover Portland's role as a leader on the issue. We hear from Bud Clark who describes the personal and policy reasons why he offered leadership at a critical moment. We hear from Dan Steffey, Clark's aide at the time, who put together Portland's 12-point plan on homelessness. Doreen Binder, executive director of Transition Projects, explains how Clark's leadership led to other Portland innovations, including the award-winning Bud Clark Commons.
