Meet Our Team

Sal A.

Sal has been with Transition Projects for over five years and is currently a Residential Advocate at our Doreen’s Place shelter. Outside of work, he enjoys drawing and being active in his church.

We appreciate Sal’s dedication to our participants and hope you’ll take a minute to learn more about his Transition Projects journey in his own words.

What brought you to Transition Projects?

The Transition Projects Resource Center is actually the first place I sought resources in Portland. I eventually got connected with a peer support specialist named Jon, who took me to my first meeting to deal with my addiction. His life-changing support is the reason that I work here.

What has your time been like?

The work isn’t easy, but seeing the people I’ve played some part in helping move from our shelter to housing makes it all worth it. I will always work in direct service while at Transition Projects because it’s the best way I know how to give back.

What do Transition Projects and your work here mean to you?

One time, a participant came up to me and asked, “How do I do what you do?” I helped outline the steps, and he took a class to be a mentor, eventually becoming a peer support specialist. When I see him, I can’t help but feel proud about the work that I do.
