Roberto's Story

Roberto Smiling

Roberto was homeless for fifteen years. In 2014, with the goal of a new start and to begin his recovery from alcohol and meth addiction, he came to Transition Projects.

He was connected with a case manager and entered the Clark Center, a men’s short-term residential shelter. After two months he entered a clean and sober living house. Accepted by Transition Project’s Mentor Program, he also co-facilitated a Relapse Prevention group – a clean and sober support group in the agency’s Resource Center.

Roberto is now a State Certified Recovery Mentor and was hand-picked to be a Peer Outreach Specialist with Transition Projects’ Mobile Outreach & Engagement Team. He has since been promoted to Shelter Access Coordinator/Supervisor.

Roberto says “In the past, I was a burden on society. Now, with Transition Projects’ help, I am able to give back and be a productive member of society."
