COVID-19 Support

During this trying time, Transition Projects continues to serve individuals experiencing homelessness in our nine shelters, in our Resource Center and through our mobile outreach teams.  Our staff provide essential and life-sustaining supporting to hundreds each day.

Beginning in February, Transition Projects has taken a series of steps to help protect the health of people served in, working in, and visiting our spaces and to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. These steps include rigorously adhering to universal basic precautions, transferring half of our shelter guests to temporary social distancing shelters to enable us to achieve recommended distancing between our remaining shelter guests, and requiring the use of face coverings in all our sites, among other measures. Given the susceptibility of people experiencing homelessness to this health threat, we continue to explore additional ways to safeguard both those we serve and our team members.

Support our Work

Transition Projects has provided shelter, housing and supportive services for very low-income people for over five decades.  We are recognized across the region for our work with veterans, women, people with disabilities, and other highly vulnerable groups. Founded in 1969, we operate out of 11 Metro-area locations, enabling our team of over 325 employees to assist 10,000 people each year through programs designed to help people survive the streets, find housing, and retain their housing.  We continue to host hundreds of people experiencing homelessness in our nine shelters across the Portland metro-area. Our organization is heeding the call to serve in the most trying of circumstances and are relying on our trusted community of supporters to join us in making a difference.

Sponsor a Meal:

The Coronavirus pandemic has led to many unexpected costs. Due to public health recommendations, we're unable to have volunteers make meals for participants in our kitchens and have had to seek out more expensive meal options. The cost to provide a hot meal has almost doubled. Donate today to help us to provide healthy, nutritious meals for the residents in our nine shelters.

$50 = 15 Meals
$100 = 30 Meals
$200 = 60 Meals
$300 = 90 Meals
$420 = 120 Meals

Provide a Meal:

Usually, individuals and groups can sign up to prepare a meal in our shelters. Due to COVID-19 and social distancing protocols, we're asking volunteers to prepare and simply drop off meals at one of our shelters. These donations will supplement the sponsored meal program. Meals can be sack lunches, home-cooked food, store-bought prepared foods (e.g. frozen lasagnas), or even restaurant take-out or delivery! For more information on providing food to a shelter during the COVID-19 pandemic, please contact our volunteer coordinator today.
